  1.                             INTRODUCTION

  3. This patch file will update your current version of Red Baron to
  4. include a new joystick driver which corrects joystick problems,
  5. primarily, those associated with using a fast computer (i.e. 386/33)
  6. with a game card that does not offer speed calibration.

  9.                              IMPORTANT!
  10.  
  11. This version of the patch file will only work with the 5.25" VGA
  12. version of Red Baron.  (You are using the 5.25" version if you
  13. installed the program from the 5.25" disks).  If you have the 3.5"
  14. VGA version, you need to obtain a copy of the RBVGA3.ZIP patch file.
  15. Since the PATCH.EXE program actually updates the original files with
  16. the specific patch data, it is important that you have the patch
  17. file that corresponds to the version that you are using.

  19. To determine which version you have, check the System Requirements
  20. Label on the Red Baron box sleeve, or check the size of the RB.EXE
  21. file using the DOS DIR command (type:  DIR RB.EXE).

  23. If you have the 5.25" VGA version of Red Baron, RB.EXE will contain
  24. 297982 bytes.

  26. If you have the 3.5" VGA version of Red Baron, RB.EXE will contain
  27. 298014 bytes.

  30.                               INSTALLATION

  32. To update your original version of Red Baron with the new joystick
  33. code, simply copy the patch files (PATCH.EXE and PATCH.RTP) into the
  34. subdirectory on your hard drive where Red Baron is located.  If you
  35. used the Smart Start install program, it will be located in the
  36. \DYNAMIX\BARON subdirectory.

  38. Once you've copied the files there, run the patch program by typing
  39. PATCH. The patch program will update your original version and
  40. announce when it is complete.  That's all there is to it.  When
  41. complete, the updated .EXE files should now look like:

  47.                           RUNNING THE PROGRAM

  49. Once you've updated the program, run it exactly how you ran the
  50. original version.  No additional commands are necessary.
